Zelensky addresses world, says Russia plans to attack the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Tuesday that he is under the impression that Russian forces will destroy the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is under Russia's control. Russia has told staff to leave the plant by July 5.

"Now we have information from our intelligence," Zelensky said on Twitter, "that the Russian military has placed objects resembling explosives on the roof of several power units of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant."

"Perhaps to simulate an attack on the plant. Perhaps they have some other scenario. But in any case, the world sees – can't but see – that the only source of danger to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is Russia and no one else," he continued.

"Unfortunately, there was no timely and large-scale response to the terrorist attack on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. And this may incite the Kremlin to commit new evil. It is the responsibility of everyone in the world to stop it, no one can stand aside, as radiation affects everyone," he concluded.

In the accompanying video, Zelensky spoke about his meetings with NATO leaders and plans for defending his territory. This comes after he penned an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal congratulating the US on her Independence Day, letting America know how much more money, weapons, and aid he needs.

After the Nova Kakhovka dam was destroyed, which was also in Russian control over the Dnieper River, Zelensky stated that Russia had sabotaged that as well. Ukraine claimed Russia blew up the Nova Kakhovka dam and said it was a war crime, while Russia has said that it was Ukraine who "sabotaged the dam, to distract attention from the launch of a major counteroffensive Moscow says is faltering," Reuters reported.

"Russian tyranny is desperately trying to attract other enemies of freedom," Zelensky said in his op-ed, "in particular the Iranian regime, which tries to threaten free nations all over the world and provides weapons to Russia that kill innocent Ukrainian civilians on a daily basis.

"If—God forbid—Russia were to succeed in Ukraine, it would further embolden countries like Iran to take up arms against free peoples elsewhere in the world. It would encourage Russia to invade deeper into Europe, bringing it into direct confrontation with NATO."

Zelensky said in an interview that the war would not be won unless Crimea is part of Ukraine, and revealed that he's been in close contact with the CIA regarding their counteroffensive against Russia.

Ukraine experienced a nuclear meltdown in Chornobyl in 1986.
